Thomas Battersby, Director

Thomas Battersby is the Director of Bands at Waukesha North High School.  A native of Kenosha, Tom graduated Cum Laude from Carthage College, earning a bachelors in instrumental music education and a minor in music composition.

While at Carthage, Tom majored on trumpet and founded the music education club, where he served as President and director.  He also was an active member of the handbell club and brass quintet, for whom he organized its’ personnel and composed and arranged its’ music.

Outside of his time at Carthage, Tom participated in several high school and collegiate honors groups in the Southeast Wisconsin region, and marched drum corps as a member of the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps based in Milwaukee.

Before coming to Waukesha, Tom served as the director of bands in the Boscobel School District at Boscobel Middle/High School, where he taught instrumental music grades 6-12 for three years. During his tenure, he increased interest and retention, enabling and facilitating the need for more rehearsal time and the addition of a jazz ensemble program. The concert ensembles experienced incredible growth in performance at regional concert band festivals, moving ensembles previously earning 2’s in class B to 1’s in Class A with less than ideal numbers and instrumentation.

In coming to Waukesha North, he hopes to replicate and expand upon the current growth while building on the tradition and excellence of the program, as well as continue to compose and arrange.
